Site Tours, Painted Hall Talks, Skittle Alley add-ons

To help us monitor visitor flow and numbers and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our visitors, tours and the Skittle Alley must be booked in advance.

Please note, before booking your tours or Skittle Alley visit, you should have booked a Painted Hall & 500 Years of History Ticket or have a valid annual pass for each member of the group you are booking for. You will need to present this along with your tour/Skittle Alley booking at the ticket desk when you arrive in order to gain admission.

Although children 16 and under are free, we ask that you book for them as well so that we have accurate visitor numbers. Please note, children 16 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult, and there is a maximum of four children per adult.

If you are attending more than one tour/event during your visit you only need to check in at the ticket desk once to get your sticker, and then you can meet your guide at the next point.

Visitors attending a tour, talk or the Skittle Alley while on site must wear a mask for the duration of the tour or their time in the Skittle Alley for the safety of our team, and other visitors.

  • The Skittle Alley is remaining closed for now in accordance with the Government guidance around bowling alleys. We are continuing to monitor this and hope to have it open again soon.

Please note: on 16th December due to a Private Event, the Painted Hall will be closing at 3pm.

A section of the Painted Hall will be closed to the public on Saturday 2nd January while we install & also Monday 8th February to dismantle Gaia, an artwork being exhibited. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and if you have already purchased your ticket(s) we are happy to change them for another day if you would prefer not to visit while this installation is taking place. If you do choose to visit on Saturday, we will have an adapted tour programme taking place to enable you to still visit and engage with the Painted Hall, outside of the closed area.
