Luke Jerram’s astonishing installation Mars is coming to the Painted Hall this winter. Following the sell-out success of Gaia and Museum of the Moon, Mars will complete the trilogy of Jerram’s out-of-this-world installations at the iconic Old Royal Naval College.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, this spellbinding artwork features detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface recreated to scale. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Painted Hall, this unique pairing will bring two breathtaking works of art together, merging science with history, myth and allegory.

Launching this autumn, the beauty of the Painted Hall will be contrasted elegantly with Luke Jerram’s inspiring installation ‘Mars’ – making for an ideal photo opportunity!
To better facilitate those looking for the perfect shot this ticket has reduced capacity and will be at a quieter time. Posing and selfies encouraged!

Changes of costume, GoPro and filming are permitted, but please note this time is intended for recreational photo-taking, so no extensive equipment (i.e. tripods, light stands) will be permitted.

Enjoy the elegance of the Painted Hall and the inspiring installation of ‘Mars’ in the quieter hours of the morning. This session is intended for those that want to appreciate the space in a more relaxed environment and will have a reduced number of visitors.
This session is primarily for, but not limited to, neurodiverse adults and children, and any other visitors with sensory needs who may prefer a more relaxed experience.
