Blockbuster Film Tour
Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of “the most popular filming location in the world” (Empire magazine).
From a starring role as Buckingham Palace in The Crown to 19th century revolutionary Paris in Les Misérables, the Old Royal Naval College has provided the setting for some of the most memorable scenes in major film and TV productions. On this tour you will be guided through over 60 years of filming both on our iconic riverside grounds and inside the magnificent Painted Hall.
Tour highlights include:
- Spot the locations around our site used for filming The Crown (2016 – Present) including Buckingham Palace, Dartmouth College and many more.
- Inside the Painted Hall see where Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman waltzed the night away in Indiscreet (1958) which was filmed in a replica Hall .
- Walk in the footsteps of Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (2011) and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides (2011)
- View the Painted Hall backdrop for a scene in the Madness of King George (1994), where Nigel Hawthorne’s George III is presented with the painting of his forebearer/ancestor George I
- Visit Lower Grand Square which hosted a crashed spacecraft in a climactic battle scene in Thor: The Dark World (2013)
This tour takes place mainly outdoors around the site, so please dress appropriately, including footwear, for all weather conditions.
Become a Gift Aid Visitor
The Old Royal Naval College is a registered charity and you can support our charitable aims through Gift Aid at no extra cost to you. If you are a UK taxpayer, then as a charity, we can claim 25% back from the Government on your entrance fee donation if you choose to Gift Aid it.
Tickets can be Gift Aided as they are valid for one year from the date of your donation. We can only claim Gift Aid if you are obtaining tickets for yourself and your family. If the tickets are for people who are not family members then please inform a member of staff. Once Gift Aid has been applied, we are required by HMRC to regard the payment for tickets as a donation which cannot therefore be refunded.
