Cornwallis Cloth BSL talk
Sat 4 Jul | 11am - 1.30pm in Visitor Cente and Clore Learning Centre.
- In BSL only — this will not be interpreted into spoken English
Inspired by the stories of British Caribbean lives during a time when the region became a frontline to the aggressions of Axis powers, a fully captioned film (20 min) explores themes of loyalty, freedom, and emerging post-colonial identity. Along with the film is a contextualising exhibition which you will browse with your guide (in BSL only — this will not be interpreted into spoken English) before settling into our Clore Learning Centre with simple complimentary refreshments for an informative talk about this moment in history, including elements which are only recently coming to light in modern Britain.
Enter our Visitor Centre through the main doors (which face the River Thames). From there go straight ahead to white oval reception desk and check in with staff by 11am.
Your guide will meet you and provide a basic orientation to the space before taking the group up to mezzanine level to peruse the Cornwallis Cloth exhibition, watch Cornwallis Cloth film by Sweet Patootee Arts, and help yourself to a cuppa & biscuits.
An informative talk will be presented entirely in British Sign Language by Alan Murray, followed by an invitation to ask questions and continue discussions over complimentary refreshments.
For those who wish to have a go at a game of old-fashioned skittles, you may join Alan on a short walk to the Skittle Alley to round out your visit.
Farewell at 1:30
